Latest Virtual Design Project

I have a virtual client project to share with you today!

This virtual interior design project was for a super sweet family who wanted to focus on the furniture layout (floor plan) to maximize the use of the space, add seating and color. They sent me photos of the space and I could see that the bones of this room were quite lovely but not only did we need a good layout, we needed better storage for toys and books – and color!

This room is the main room – and needed to work for 3 children playing, tv watching, reading and relaxing as well as small group entertaining for Mom and Dad. A true multi event space!

Virtual Interior Design

I sent her a digital design questionnaire asking lots of questions. I customized the questionnaire after I saw photos of the room. My client wanted to keep most of her existing furniture.

The revised layout included removing the cabinet next to the fireplace, and this instantly opened up the space! Then they agreed to slim down the amount of books on display and move the big bookcase to the basement. Once that bookcase was removed, we could shift the seating area over and make room for toy storage behind the sofa. With the bookcase gone, you could “see” into the room and it felt more welcoming. We kept a nice reading chair in the corner near the fireplace and added two smaller chairs (that were from another room) to create a nice seating group with the sectional they already had. Then multiple baskets and a new and smaller open bookshelf between the two windows.

This was such a fun family to work with. The client had great inspiration photos! She wanted to work with her existing gray sectional, which was in great shape and practical. She wanted to paint a new wall color and add pops of color thoughout. She had pinned a few different color schemesand styles she liked but once I saw photos of nearby rooms, I knew we needed to go with a Gray, Blue and Terracotta color palette to pull things together. Then we added storage and a great rug to tie all the color palette together.

As they waited for things to arrive, they painted the entire room with a beautiful color I chose for them.

They love their new room! I am thrilled and so are they!

We added a new mirror, accessories and throw pillows too!

I love working WITH my clients. Helping them sort through all those pretty ideas floating around in their head. This means lots of questions and discussion about practicality, storage, and what looks good.

I would love to work with you too! If that sounds like something you’d like to talk about, feel free to schedule a Discovery Call – no pressure, just a phone call to make sure we are a good fit.

How Much Does It Cost To Decorate A Living Room?

How Much Does It Cost To Decorate A Living Room?

An important question to ask before starting a design project is, “What is the budget?” It can be a hard question to answer and many times my clients are not sure what a reasonable budget really is.

I thought this would be a good topic to blog about and explore a little bit deeper.

Before I begin designing for a client, I always ask about budget. A budget number lets me know where to shop for your items and where to trim back. This way, we can get the most “bang for your buck.”

Of course, you could do it all DIY and garage sales and come in on a shoe string. However, I am going to discuss the costs for furnishing a room with new items. Most of my clients have not designed and decorated an entire room before – start to finish.

One thing I know for sure is, things add up quickly! I can mention an average number and to most people it sounds high. But when you actually look at a list of items, it soon makes sense.

So, I went ahead and created 3 price points to consider: low, medium and high for an average sized living room.

How much does it cost to decorate a living room?

Decorating Budgets:

See? That added up fast!

The Low Design Budget above is shopping places like Wayfair, Target, IKEA, World Market, etc. If you know what to look for, you can find some fun and interesting pieces without breaking the bank. Of course, it could be less if you already have a good quality sofa and just need to add other pieces.

A Medium Design Budget means you want to invest a little more in the key pieces that get the most use, so a good quality sofa – maybe from a company like Pottery Barn or Crate and Barrel.   shop where you like to shop, so let me know if there is a sofa you have in mind already. Maybe you want more art and accessories too.

A High End Budget means you definitely want quality pieces and possibly something really on trend, like possibly a coffee table from Studio McGee, a sofa from Restoration Hardware or a rug from Serena and Lily. Overall, the room will be really well appointed from top to bottom with quality, designer look pieces. Of course, this number can go sky high easily but only if you give me the green light, haha!

I hope this helps when you are considering how much to spend on your next decorating project.

Where I come in: I help you sort through all the options that are out there. (So many options!) I help you find a look that feels like you and is functional and on budget. I know where to find the look you want for a good price.

I am looking at all the details: scale, style, finishes, colors and then together we make smart decisions.

When I work with clients virtually, an important part of my process is a floor plan to make sure everything fits in your space. I also create a custom design questionnaire for every project to really dive deep to discover your true style.

This display is neutral and classic. Which means it will work in any foyer and with any style.

All you need is some sort of table space in your entry area. A few stacked books to add some height. Add a ribbon to hang the wreath on the mirror. Get creative and add your personal touches. See below where I added some velvet pumpkins for extra texture.

All the items are from Ballard Designs, a company I love to use because of the price point, quality and styles. All accessories are 20% off through 9-21-2020!

Now if you are wanting more color, add velvet pumpkins. I found these beauties on Etsy.com. Just type in velvet pumpkins and they will come right up!

Since this display uses dried elements, I suggest battery operated candles!
